Victoria Bowmen & JOP Newsletter - May 2007

Here is the latest Victoria Bowmen News, as of our last Board Meeting on the 14th.

New 3D Trails

The 3D courses have been changed substantially; they rotate in the other direction now. Apparently it is lots of fun, everyone is enjoying it immensely.

We want to get to work on the field course soon

Upper Range (900)

Since the old roof shelter blew over, there has been much discussion on whether to repair, replace or dispose of it. We are going to build more of the new style donaconna butts with stands and replace the structure with 6 – 8 new butts, which can be moved for events. If you are available to help out, please let Greg know.

The new Job Jar

We have started a new page on the website called the ‘Job Jar’, it is a repository of things that need to be done at the club, a place where you can see where you can help out! Please keep and eye on it for work parties large or small and other ways you can help out in your own time. http://victoriabowmen.com/job_jar.htm

New Victoria Bowmen Pin Design

The club wants to update its pin, we are looking to make a minor change to make the new pin distinctive from the older ones. We still want to keep our ‘Thunderbird’ logo. So, if you know of someone with some design ideas, please have them contact the secretary.

Shooting Times:

Club shooting nights are now Wednesdays from around 6:30 PM until dark, lessons are Tuesday nights. JOP is Saturday Mornings 10 – 12.

If you are interested in trying 3D or Field shooting come to the outdoor range early Saturday mornings or early Wednesday evenings.  If you are not familiar with the trails you should ask an experienced archer if you may join them - most will be happy to have you along.

Remember that the outdoor range is open all year round so you can come and practice anytime.  You’ll need your membership card for the gate, which you should wear while you  are on the range.

Beginner's Lessons

If you or someone you know has never shot before but would like to learn archery, George Trattner's beginner lessons are great opportunity to do so.  A portion of registration fees goes toward club membership.  The next series will begins soon.  These lessons seem to be very popular and effective!  Contact George for details.

Helena Myllyniemi is teaching classes for younger children at the Commonwealth pool and George Pearkes arena.  Contact her for details 592-0673.

Garbage and Clean Up

You are again reminded that the there is no garbage collection at the range, please take any garbage you may have out with you. Please also pick up any you may find lying about.

Courses

A Coaching Course is scheduled for October 20 – 21, cost is $90, part of which the club will reimburse you for.  These costs include all manuals and participation. If you are interested contact Tracy 598-7615. Please register as soon as possible so we will know that we have enough participants

Note to Parents

You are asked to stay and watch over your children when they are at practice. Volunteers are very much appreciated.  Please note dates and write them on your calendar.  Thank you - your dedication is very much appreciated!

Please pass this information on to anyone who may not have received it.  Thank you!
