Victoria Bowmen Newsletter March 2010

THE VICTORIA BOWMEN ASSOCIATION

Newsletter March, 2010

Hello Victoria Bowmen Members,

Here is the latest news about the club from our latest Board Meeting this past Monday.

There is little good news on the Facilities front, I’m sure you’ve heard lots of rumours about various properties that we have investigated. I’m sorry to report that we are no further ahead finding a new home than we were last year. This has not been from a lack of effort, we have looked at a number of places, but for various reasons none have worked out.

The most recent has been our efforts to take over the Victoria Police Pistol Range in View Royal, this is a contaminated site within Thetis Lake Park. We have made a presentation to the CRD Parks Board meeting and staff have taken our request for investigation, we will not know about the results of this for some time possibly in the fall. It is good to hear that a number of our members are carrying on their 3D group at the Malahat.

We have secured a place to shoot until we can find something else; we have gained the use of Sangster School’s fields on the weekends (3325 Metchosin Rd). We wanted to stay in this area as that is where our container is. Unfortunately we will not have a 3D ready facility until we find the property that will allow that.

Hours: We have been able to book the outdoor fields from 1000 – 1400 (10 AM – 2 PM) Saturdays and Sundays from April 10 through September 29th. Then in June starting the 2nd we can shoot on Wednesday evenings from 2000 (8PM) to 2130 (9:30PM) and beginning the 30th we can start at 1830 (6:30PM). While this is far from ideal, it will allow us plenty of outdoor time considering the numbers we have been getting lately. We can probably adjust the weekend timings to accommodate tournaments or other events. Our JOP will meet Saturday Mornings from 10 AM. Lessons will continue at Saanich Commonwealth Place and Pearkes Arena (more information on the club website).

Remember we are still shooting indoors on Tuesday evenings, our last Saturday is March 13 and the last Tuesday is March 30.

The latest news will be on the website as it happens, please keep it bookmarked: www.victoriabowmen.com

Straight arrows and Good Shooting!
